Breuer, Marcel (Lajos)
(21 may. 1902, Pécs, Hungría–1 jul. 1981, Nueva York, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Arquitecto y diseñador de muebles estadounidense de origen húngaro. Estudió y posteriormente enseñó en la Bauhaus (1920–28), donde en 1925 inventó la famosa silla de acero tubular. En 1937 emigró a Cambridge, Mass., EE.UU., para dar clases en la Universidad de Harvard y ejercer con Walter Gropius. La síntesis que ellos lograron del internacionalismo de la Bauhaus con la construcción sobre la base de marcos de madera de Nueva Inglaterra, influyó fuertemente en la arquitectura de EE.UU. Breuer fue uno de los exponentes más influyentes del estilo internacional. Sus principales encargos arquitectónicos comprenden la sede de la UNESCO en París (1953–58) y el Whitney Museum of American Art (1966).
